JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita conveyed the latest leak regarding government negotiations with global technology giant, Apple.
Agus said that Apple had expressed its willingness to send high-level representatives to Indonesia to discuss the potential for strategic cooperation. The negotiation agenda will be carried out at the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Investment.
"What I can share is the development of Apple and can be ascertained in accordance with our request, Apple will choose its top-level official to negotiate with the Ministry of Industry," Agus said at the Ministry of Industry's office, Jakarta, Friday, January 3.
"They will come with an agenda for negotiations with us here and also the Office of the Ministry of Investment. But, I think it proves that the strategy taken by the government, God willing, will produce results," he continued.
The news of the direct negotiations between Apple and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia is seen as a big step towards the potential entry of Apple's investment into Indonesia.
He said this negotiation would be led by the Directorate General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics Industry (Ditjen ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry with a focus on common interests.
"Negotiation will not be easy, Apple will put their interests first. What we can read is how much profit, how much money. Meanwhile, we, the government, also have principles that we cannot rule out," he said.
The Minister of Industry stressed that the government will continue to maintain a balance between Apple's interests as a greater investor and national interest.
"How to find common ground is an art in itself from negotiations. We will always prioritize the interests of the nation and state. Especially, in creating jobs for the community," he said.
Previously, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) provided two options to Apple regarding investment plans.
This investment is also a condition for Apple to be able to market iPhone 16 products in Indonesia.
