KKP Asks Police To Help Investigate Cases Of Mysterious Sea Fences In Tangerang

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) asked for the support of the police to conduct an investigation into the sea fence on the coast of Tangerang, Banten. This was done by the result of the fishing association that was absent from the KKP summons.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said that his party received information that the fishing association was building a sea fence. He said his party had summoned them, but until now there has been no response.

"We are still calling it (the fishermen's association), we have been summoned several times by the Director General of PSDKP (Pung Nugroho Saksono) but have not arrived. We have asked the police to help carry out the investigation," Trenggono said as quoted from the video uploaded on his official Instagram account @swtrenggono, Monday, January 20.

Even so, Trenggono ensured that his party had handled the sea fence by sealing it. For now, he continued, the mystery of the sea fence is under investigation and investigation.

Moreover, said Trenggono, in accordance with the Job Creation Act, all building activities at sea must have a sea space permit. This means that if this is not done, the KKP will stop it and be processed administratively.

Trenggono also said that the sea fence had its own ecological impact. He emphasized that his party together with the Minister of Environment are studying this phenomenon. "But the most important thing is who did it and for whatever benefit," he concluded.

Previously, on Saturday, January 18, as many as 600 Indonesian Navy personnel and fishermen dismantled the sea fence from the Tanjung Pasir Beach line, Teluknaga District to the coast of Kronjo Beach, Kronjo District. The process of dismantling the sea fence from bamboo was carried out in stages, which had reached two kilometers.

The KKP sealed a mysterious 30.16 kilometer sea fence in Tangerang Regency, Banten.

Based on a video upload on the official Instagram account of KKP @kkpgoid, Thursday, January 9, the officers of the Directorate General of Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision (PSDKP) of the KKP were seen standing on the sea fence by posting a red banner that reads the termination of the fasting activity.

"The termination of the Sea Restriction Activities without a permit," reads the text on the banner.

Meanwhile, the Special Staff of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries for Public Relations and Public Communications, Doni Ismanto, said that his party would investigate the case of sea fencing.

"In particular, for the case of sea fencing in Tangerang waters, Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono has ordered the Director General of PSDKP to immediately carry out in-depth control and investigations," Doni said in his official statement.

Doni assessed that sea space refreshment is an act of violating the rules, especially without permission. Because, it can interfere with public access, privatization, damage biodiversity and changes in the function of marine space.

"This sea fencing ban does not only apply in Indonesia, but also internationally. Because it is not in accordance with the practice of the United Nation Convention on the Law of the Sea or UNCLOS 1982, which is an international agreement that regulates marine law," he said.

It is known that this mysterious marine fence in Tangerang Regency annexed the coastal areas of dozens of fishing villages in 6 sub-districts. This also makes it difficult for fishermen to find fish.
