Erick Thohir Reviews The Role Of GIS As A Strategic Holding

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir plans to review the role of holding state-owned companies in the next few years. One of them is PT Semen Indonesia Tbk (SMGR) or SIG.

Erick said that his party would explain this great incentive to President Prabowo Subianto. He said this step was to support the realization of food, energy and other self-sufficiency programs as launched by Prabowo.

"Because in the past, when we combined the cluster from 24 to 12, we haven't carried out a generic holding yet. This is just a merger and consolidation, not yet an operation," he said at a press conference at the Ministry of SOEs, Jakarta, Thursday, December 5.

Therefore, Erick said that in the next few years the Ministry of SOEs will determine what type of role the BUMN holding can play according to the needs and conditions of the company.

Currently, there are two types of holding, namely the operating holding and the strategic holding. Where the holding operation means that the parent company participates in operations with the subsidiary, while this strategic holding only focuses on the managerial function.

"In the next five years, we will defend the holding which can be carried out more like what type. Well, whether it's strategic or operating," he said.

"We are looking at data, numbers, SOPs, assignments, now we are trying to see it helicopter view, it's not just strategic, we can't. So we have to be together. This is what we are doing for the next few years," he continued.

For your information, this statement is Erick Thohir's response to the statement of Commission VI of the DPR which proposed PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (SMGR) or GIS becomes a strategic holding which means not to be involved in operating activities.

Previously, the discussion of the role of the SIG holding was put forward by Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the DPR Andre Rosiade in a hearing (RDP) with GIS. Andre suggested that the policy of holding operations in GIS should be changed to a strategic holding.

The reason, continued Andre, was that the holding operation was ineffective. So that it can harm children's entities under the Indonesian Cement.

Andre believes that the implementation of strategic holdings, GIS subsidiaries such as Semen Padang, Semen Tonasa, Semen Baturaja, Semen Gresik and others have more roles to play in developing, including in determining the market.

"I see that the operating holding is ineffective. We have to evaluate the operating holding to be strategic holding. The strategic holding stipulates KPI, SOP. Later, the subsidiary will work, more optimally, more agilely moving," said Andre.
