Ketum Apindo: PDP Law Not Only Protect Individual Privacy, But Encourages Transparency

The Indonesian Employers' Association (Apindo) is again holding the Indonesia Privacy and Security Summit (IPSS) 2024 with the theme Navigation in Personal Data Protection: Implementation of the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP) and Cyber Security in Indonesia.

IPSS 2024 brings together government leaders to digital industry players exchange ideas and recommendations for best practices from the business world, in facing digital future challenges, especially related to personal data protection.

This event also welcomes the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP) which was officially enforced in October this year.

Apindo General Chair, Shinta W Kamdani revealed, Apindo is committed to becoming a bridge of collaboration to bridge the Government's needs with the aspirations and interests of business actors in implementing the PDP Law.

He emphasized the importance of implementing the PDP Law as a strategic step in building trust in the digital economy.

The PDP Law not only protects individual privacy, but also encourages transparency and accountability in data management. The 2024 IPSS event is also a momentum to strengthen synergies and set a direction towards a safe, inclusive, and sustainable digital ecosystem," explained Shinta.

The Head of Digital Apindo, Neneng Goenadi, said the same thing. He conveyed that the implementation of the PDP Law is an important step towards a safe and reliable digital ecosystem in Indonesia.

However, he continued, success requires cross-sectoral collaboration, technology utilization, and sustainable community education.

"We directly submit two recommendations for the draft instrument to the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia as a reference for policy makers," he said.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) Nezar Patria said Indonesia had made major steps in the digital era with the PDP Law.

The PDP Law is expected to be able to provide stronger certainty and protection for the business climate and society, in terms of personal data management.

Komdigi, he continued, is preparing supporting instruments in stages as well as socializing this law and completing its implementation regulations.

"We appreciate Apindo for holding the 2024 IPSS as a forum to strengthen collaboration between the government, business actors, and the technology community in creating resilient cybersecurity practices and supporting the implementation of the PDP Law optimally towards Indonesia Emas 2025," he said.

Chairman of the National Economic Council of the Republic of Indonesia, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said that Indonesia's digital economy is growing rapidly and is predicted to grow until 2030.

"The government is committed to continuing to strengthen cybersecurity and the protection of this personal data. We are currently digitizing all data in Ministries and government institutions by bringing together 27,000 applications into one government portal to reduce inefficiency and facilitate decision making, so that it can support the business climate better," said Luhut.
