Minister Of Industry Agus Targets Investment In Weda Bay 8 Billion US Dollars Next Year

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita targets investment in the Weda Bay industrial area, North Maluku, to reach 8 billion US dollars by 2025.

Minister of Industry Agus said the figure came from 5 billion US dollars invested in the development of the HPAL battery and smelter industry and an investment of 2 billion US dollars to apply green energy principles and improve energy mixes in the industrial area.

Then, the construction of the electrolytic industry will drink PT Progress Aluminum Industry and PT Pioneer Aluminum Industry amounting to US$1 billion with a target of completion of construction on October 1, 2025.

Agus pun telah meninjau persiapan groundbreaking tiga proyek yang dibangun di kawasan industri IWIP dengan total nilai sekitar 2 miliar dolar AS, yaitu pabrik Battery Cell untuk EV dan Energy Storage System (ESS) PT REPT BATTERO, pabrik penggembangan e-dump trucks PT Qingturo Automotive Manufacturing Indonesia serta industri electrolytic alumin PT Progress Alumina Industry.

He said PT REPT BATTERO will have a battery cell production capacity of 20 GWh per year and an electrode of around 995 million meters per year.

Then, PT Qingtuo Automotive Manufacturing Indonesia will produce new energy transportation vehicles, construction machines, charging and replicating equipment and supporting parts and equipment, with total investment reaching US$ 693 million.

This factory is targeted to be completed and operational by December 2025. The use of e-dump trucks in mining areas is a step to reduce carbon emissions.

Then, PT Progress Alumina Industry is targeted to produce electrolytic aluminum with a capacity of 1 million tons per year and an investment value of 655 million US dollars.

In addition, Agus also reviewed the industry that will export its first product in the form of downstream precursor nickel cobalt manganese hydroxide products, namely PT Huaneng New Material which has a production capacity of 50,000 tons per year.

"The purpose of our visit is to see the readiness of groundbreaking for three new PT IWIP projects as well as the release of precursor exports which is expected to be inaugurated in early 2025 by President Prabowo Subianto," he said.
