The Minister Of Manpower Proposes To The Coordinating Ministry For The Establishment Of A Task Force To Handle The Rise Of Layoffs

JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli said that his party was proposing the formation of a task force (Satgas) to handle the rampant termination of employment (PHK).

According to Yassierli, the discussion of layoffs was not only discussed by his party but also by other ministries/agencies.

Therefore, the proposal will be discussed with the Coordinating Ministry in establishing a task force for handling layoffs.

"Those are the multi-ministerial ministries that will work later, the issue of layoffs will go to the Coordinating Ministry to form a task force together," he told the media crew after the Social Security Summit 2024 event, Tuesday, November 26.

Even so, Yassierli said that he could not provide details regarding the formation of the layoff task force because until now it was still a proposal.

"This is just a suggestion, yes, just uuslan and it will be fu in our meeting," he said.

Previously, Executive Director of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Danang Girindrawardana said the number of employees who had been laid off for the past three years was almost 200,000 and in the past month nearly 30,000 people were dismissed.

"The government, representatives of the people, and interested parties should be aware of this reality, so that they can jointly find solutions so that the domestic textile and garment industry can be helped to rise," said Danang, Monday, September 9.

According to Danang, there are several things that make the domestic textile and garment industry in difficult positions.

First, due to the intense competition among textile producing countries.

In this context, the Indonesian textile industry has lost to China, Bangladesh, and Vietnam.

Second, the entry of textile products from foreign countries is so heavy, both new goods and used clothes, aka threatening. Third, the government is half-hearted in helping and protecting the domestic textile industry.

"I see that the state is still half-hearted in protecting domestic textile industry players. Efforts exist, but the realization is not optimal. In the end, the results are also not good. Illegal importers are not dealt with firmly," he said.
