JAKARTA - Cruise issuers of PT Humpuss Maritime International Tbk (HUMI) carry out mangrove planting programs in the Mangrove Conservation Area of Pantai Bahagia, Muaragembong, Bekasi.
Program penanaman 4.000 seedlings mangrove sebagai langkah nyata HUMI dalam mengelola dampak lingkungan dari operasional serta kontribusi terhadap upaya global melawan perubahan iklim.
Previously, in mid-2024, 1,500 mangrove seeds had been carried out in the same place, bringing the total seeds planted until the end of 2024, as many as 5,500 mangrove seeds.
HUMI is committed to managing operational impacts on the environment seriously, in line with global efforts to fight climate change. As a company engaged in the maritime sector, we understand our role and responsibility in maintaining sustainability. Our responsibility is not only limited to meeting logistics needs, but also to focusing on how every step we take can contribute to the sustainability of the earth," said Tirta Hidayat, President Director of HUMI, in his statement, Saturday, November 23.
As a company operating in the maritime industry, HUMI realizes that ship operations, which are an important part of the global logistics chain, have an impact on carbon emissions.
Our ship operation has contributed to carbon emissions, and HUMI continues to look for ways to mitigate this impact through increased energy efficiency, more environmentally friendly use of fuel, as well as sustainable innovation in ship operations. We are committed to continuing to innovate to reduce carbon footprint and ensure that we operate with lower environmental impacts," Tirta added.
As a concrete effort to tackle climate change, HUMI launched a Mangrove Planting Program that functions as carbon offset compensation in the next 3-5 years. Mangroves are known to have extraordinary ability to absorb carbon dioxide and protect coastal ecosystems.
This mangrove seed planting program will function as a natural carbon absorber while protecting coastal areas from erosion and abrasion. This mangrove planting is also a strategic step to maintain biodiversity, prevent ecosystem damage, and increase coastal resistance to the impact of climate change.
This program involves collaboration between HUMI and the Mangrove Indonesia Lestari Foundation, a non-profit community that has concerns and has the initiative to save the earth through mangrove conservation. The Mangrove Indonesia Lestari Foundation collaborates with the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Jakarta Provincial City Parks and Forests Service, the Food, Maritime and Agriculture Security Service, Jakarta Province, Forestry Service, West Java Province and Forestry Service, Central Java Province.
