Deputy Minister Of Public Works Targets SPAM Jatiluhur I To Be Completed By The End Of This Year

Deputy Minister of Public Works (PU) Diana Kusumastuti said the construction of the Jatiluhur I Regional Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in West Java Province could be completed in December 2024.

The SPAM is planned to be inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto by the end of this year.

"SPAM Jatiluhur (capacity) of 4,000 liters per second is actually completed in 2024. And we also plan to propose to be inaugurated at the end of this year," Diana told reporters at the Public Works Ministry Auditorium, Jakarta, Tuesday, November 19.

It is known that this SPAM has two Water Processing Installations (IPA) located in Cibeet and Bekasi, West Java. Diana said that the two IPAs had also been completed.

"If we see that the pipe in Bekasi has also been completed, the IPA in Cibeet has also been completed. Now we just have to finish the connection between the house and the pipes," he said.

According to Diana, this SPAM can also be a solution to deal with land subsidence.

"We hope that this year we can inaugurate (SPAM Jatiluhur) and it can be used. This is also one of our hopes for handling land subsidence," he concluded.

Based on VOI records, this SPAM was originally targeted to be completed in September 2024.

"SPAM Regional Jatiluhur I will serve East Jakarta 4,000 liters per second and is planned to be completed in September 2024," said Director General of Water Resources at the Ministry of Public Works Bob Arthur Lombgia at the Giant Sea Wall National Seminar in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 10.

Bob said the construction of the Jatiluhur SPAM was part of the Ministry of Public Works program to solve environmental problems that occurred on the north coast of Java, especially on the North Coast of Jakarta.

"The Ministry of Public Works has programmed and implemented several programs to overcome this problem. The provision of clean water from surface water is carried out through the construction of the Karian Regional SPAM "Serpong," he said.

He said the water supply for this SPAM came from the construction of the Karian Dam in Banten which was completed this year and with a capacity of 315 million cubic meters which can supply raw water, especially for West Jakarta.

According to Bob, actually the problem of the north coast, especially on the north coast of Jakarta, is not just dealing with the tidal flood problem that occurs, but there are environmental problems.

"There are three things we have to do in our efforts to restore the environment, namely, firstly the provision of clean water through surface water, secondly sanitation, in this case the quality of water and waste and the third is flood control, both floods from upstream and tidal flooding originating from the sea," he said.
