JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) supports President Prabowo Subianto's government policy of targeting self-sufficiency in energy in 4 -5 years.

Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso said that in supporting the energy self-sufficiency target, Pertamina continues to be committed to maintaining energy resilience by maintaining and improving existing businesses, as well as improving a more environmentally friendly low-carbon business.

Currently, Pertamina is developing four breakthroughs in low-carbon business, including the development of biofuels, petrochemicals, geothermals, and carbon capture utilization and storage (CCS/CCUS). This breakthrough is the Company's commitment to carry out its role to support the achievement of the Indonesian Government's Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060 or sooner.

"This breakthrough will strengthen energy self-sufficiency, as well as have an impact on reducing carbon emissions, diversifying business portfolios that will open up new business opportunities in the future," said Fadjar, Thursday, October 24.

Fadjar said, Pertamina has succeeded in developing biofuel energy as a more environmentally friendly fuel with a mixture of vegetable ingredients. Pertamina has succeeded in producing and utilizing biodiesel B35.

In addition to B35, Pertamina is also developing Pertamax Green and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) aircraft fuels with a mixture of plant-based materials.

"The Bureauuel that Pertamina has implemented has an impact on reducing emissions, so it has a positive added value for the community. In 2023, the application of B35 will be able to reduce CO2 emissions to 32.7 million tons," he explained.

In the development of Geothermal, added Fadjar, currently Pertamina manages 15 geothermal working areas (WKP) with an installed capacity of 672 MW which will be increased to 1 GW in the next two to three years. Pertamina has the potential for geothermal reserves that are ready to be developed.

Meanwhile, Fadjar added, in the development of Petrochemical, Pertamina targets production of 3.2 million tons in 2025, from the current 1.9 million tons per year. For this business development, Pertamina is open to establishing partnerships with various institutions from within and outside the country.

From the upstream oil and gas business, Pertamina will also contribute to reducing emissions through CCS/CCUS development. The cumulative development of CCS/CCUS has the potential to reduce emissions by 1.5 million in 2029. Development projects that have been carried out include Field Sukowati, Field Jatibarang, and Field Ramba.

In addition to developing projects, Pertamina also involves the community in utilizing green energy which has an impact on energy self-sufficiency through the 'Dikari Energy Village' Program.

To date, the number has reached 85 fostered villages throughout Indonesia. Pertamina's various breakthroughs in achieving the energy self-sufficiency target and decarbonization have succeeded in reducing emissions above the target.

The realization of emission reduction from Scope 1 & 2 Pertamina reached 124 percent of the target set in 2023. Pertamina succeeded in decarbonizing 1.13 million tons of C02e from the target of 910 thousand tons of C02e.
