JAKARTA - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) conveyed that business actors hope that the elected President and Vice President Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka must be selective in choosing a minister who handles the economic sector.

This is because the global and national economy are weakening, so an experienced cabinet team is needed and able to create new breakthroughs to deal with the dynamics of the economy full of uncertainty.

He added, Prabowo and chose a minister from professionals who were far from sectoral egos.

"Business actors hope that the Prabowo-Gibran Cabinet will prioritize professional figures, leadership experience, collaborative spirit, capableness in the fields it leads, and far from sectoral ego traits," said Sarman.

He also hopes that the official announcement of selected figures occupying ministerial seats can lead to a positive response from the financial market, for example by strengthening the JCI and the rupiah exchange rate.

So far, continued Sarman, business actors have responded positively to the entry of a number of ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet in the Prabowo-Gibran cabinet ministerial candidate exchange.

For example, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang, Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir, and Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani who had been summoned to meet Prabowo on Monday, October 14.

Sarman said that business actors want new ministers to be able to move quickly to control domestic deflation that has occurred in the last five months due to the decline in people's purchasing power.

Another problem is the unemployment rate which has reached 7.2 million people and the poor which reached 25.33 million people as of March 2024.

In addition, the new cabinet is also expected to be able to immediately work to anticipate the slowdown in trade, investment, and movement of capital between countries.

Meanwhile, regarding the number of posts in the cabinet which is estimated to increase to 46 ministry posts, Sarman assessed that this was the need for the elected president and vice president to achieve their vision and mission.

"Business actors can understand this, with a note not to extend the bureaucratic chain that slows services to the community and the business world. The business world hopes that the Probowo-Gibran cabinet will be a compact, harmonious, supervisory, one-way, and far from corrupt practices," concluded Sarman.
