JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) said lobster cultivation has economic potential of up to 53 billion US dollars by 2030.

Director General of Fisheries Budi Daya KKP Tb Haeru Rahayu said that Indonesian lobster commodities have extraordinary potential compared to neighboring countries. Therefore, lobster is one of the five leading commodities developed as a sustainable cultivation modeling.

"Last year (2023) there were not many productions, only 433 tons, if I'm not mistaken, it was worth Rp179 billion. But we have good predictions, in 2030 the share is quite large, 53 billion US dollars and this is a challenge for us," said Tb Haeru as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 9.

Tb Haeru said, so far Indonesia is still focused on cultivating shrimp, even though lobsters also have enormous potential.

From lobster clear seeds (BBL), said Tb Haeru, it is also predicted to be able to produce up to IDR 419 billion next year.

He believes that Indonesia can become a global supply chain for lobster commodities with the construction of a cultivation modeling at the Marine Cultivation Fisheries Center, Batam.

"If this works and can be copied by stakeholders, well, it's amazing. Indonesia has become a global supply chain for lobsters, and can catch up with shrimp," he also said.

Minister of KKP Sakti Wahyu Trenggono is scheduled to inaugurate the Lobster Cultivation Modeling in Batam on Thursday, October 10, 2023.

This modeling has 144 holes, consisting of pearl and sand lobsters. Budi lobster power is the fourth pilot project initiated by the KKP.

The other three commodities that have already been cultivated, namely shrimp in Kebumen, Central Java, seaweed in Wakatobi, East Sulawesi, and tilapia copy in Karawang, West Java.
