INDODAX Short Film Festival 2024 Invites Indonesian Filmmakers

JAKARTA - INDODAX Short Film Festival (ISFF) 2024 is back in the sixth year, with the theme "Trusted Visions, Timeless Stories." This festival aims to build confidence in Indonesian filmmakers, through the creation of a cinematic narrative by young Indonesian citizens who focus on showing their creativity.

With regard to the high enthusiasm shown by young filmmakers, ISFF 2024 announced that the deadline for sending short films was extended until October 20, 2024. This extension aims to provide wider opportunities for film creators from all over Indonesia to prepare their works as best they can.

As in previous years, ISFF 2024 will hold short film competitions in various categories, including Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Scenario and Best Actor. Each category will be judged by experienced judges, namely Mira Lesmana (leading producer and director), Dedih Nur Fajar Paksi (Film Director & Lecturer), and Anjas Maradita (Content Creator).

INDODAX CEO Oscar Darmawan said the 2024 ISFF event would provide a forum for young filmmakers to present their works.

"We hope that this festival can promote inspiring short films and further expand participation from various regions in Indonesia," he said, in a written statement, Monday, October 7.

Oscar also emphasized the importance of the participation of filmmakers from all over Indonesia.

"Each region has a unique rich culture and story that can enrich this festival. By involving more filmmakers from various regions, we hope that ISFF 2024 will present a representative and authentic story, and provide space for various perspectives," he explained.

Mira Lesmana, producer of the film Petualan Sherina 2, who was the judge at this event shared her views on ISFF 2024, she hopes that the quality of participants and films in ISFF 2024 will be better. She wants to see more participants from outside Java with unique stories from various regions of Indonesia. According to her, both short and long films, can affect social and environmental changes if they raise important issues.

Mira Lesmana advises short filmmakers to watch quality films as inspiration and reference.

"A short film that is extraordinary is able to convey ideas in focus in a short time and binds the emotions of the audience. As well as offering ideas that have never been seen before," said the woman who is familiarly called Mirles.

Di sisi lain, Film Director & Lecturer, Dedih Nur Fajar Paksi menilai tantangan pembuatan film saat ini terletak pada aspek teknik, bukan teknis. Saat ini, sineas muda cepat beradaptasi dengan teknologi. Sayang, mereka sering kesulitan dalam teknik bercara sepenuh dan kreatif. Sebab, cara sineas muda bercara seringkali tidak memiliki struktur yang jelas.

"The author's experience must be accurately outlined in film works. If writers cannot describe the situation appropriately, they must involve third parties for research. Film creation abroad can take years with many references, so understanding the deep situation is very important," added Mirles.

Meanwhile Anjas Maradita, who is also a festival judge this year, added that she hopes that ISFF 2024 will showcase innovative works and new talents in short films, as well as become a platform for creators to network and collaborate.

"Because the extraordinary short film is the result of the combination of strong stories with creative and innovative techniques, and leaves a deep impression on the audience," he explained.

As previously known, ISFF 2023 involved young filmmakers from sabang to Merauke and produced 226 short films with various genres. Interestingly, hundreds of film workers were involved in this event, and this shows high enthusiasm among young people in the Indonesian film industry.
