JAKARTA - The advantage in carrying out sustainable mining by implementing good mining engineering principles (Good Mining Practice), delivering PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) won 16 awards from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) at the 2024 Good Mining Practice Award organized by the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal at the Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta, on Wednesday, September 25.

A total of 16 awards received by GIS and its subsidiaries, are an increase of up to four times from the previous year where GIS and its subsidiaries received four 2023 Good Mining Practice awards. The 16 awards achieved by GIS include 8 awards for the Tuban Factory GIS and Rembang Factory; 1 award for PT Semen Padang; 2 awards for PT Semen Baturaja Tbk, as well as 5 awards for the PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI) factory in Narogong, Tuban and Lhoknga.

Eight awards won by SIG, among others, the Best Predicate Award for the category of Mineral and Coal Mining Environmental Management for Tuban Factories, the Best Predicate Award for the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management category for Tuban Factories, the Aditama Award for the Mineral and Coal Mining Environmental Management category for Tuban Factories, the Aditama Award for the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management category for Tuban Factories, the Main Award for the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management category for Rembang Factories, the Primary Award for the Mineral and Coal Mining Environmental Management categories for Development Factories, as well as the Primary Award for the Mineral and Coal Conservation Management categories for Tuban Factory and Rembang Factory.

PT Semen Padang won the Primary Award for the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management category, and PT Semen Baturaja Tbk won the Primary Award for the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management category as well as the Primary Award for the Mineral and Coal Mining Environment Management categories.

Meanwhile, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI) won the Main Award for the Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management category for Tuban Factory, the Primary Award for the category of Mineral and Coal Mining Technical Management for the Narogong Factory and Tuban Factory, the Primary Award for the Mineral and Coal Mining Environmental Management categories for the Narogong Factory, the Primary Award for the Mineral and Coal Conservation Management categories for the Lhoknga Factory.

SIG Operations Director, Reni Wulandari said, GIS integrates sustainability aspects in Company mining activities, includes environmental aspects, community welfare, as well as work safety and health (K3), to minimize negative impacts and create broad benefits for all stakeholders.

By carrying out sustainable mining, SIG takes a bigger responsibility in a broader context. This year's significant increase is a manifestation of our continuous improvement spirit to ensure mining activities are carried out safely and environmentally friendly, as well as prioritizing communication and establishing constructive relationships with the surrounding community for improving welfare," said Reni Wulandari, in her statement, Thursday, October 3.

In mining activities at the Tuban Factory GIS, for example. GIS applies a zero run off method to maintain the balance of underground water in mining areas. Meanwhile, in post-mining land management, SIG implements reclamation innovation by using a channel system. This technique is carried out by making holes in the form of elongated grooves, such as trenches with certain dimensions as planting media, so that it is more effective and efficient and environmentally friendly. Until 2024, SIG has diveged greenbelt and post-mining land in Tuban, East Java, with the planting of 526,563 trees in a total area of 251.80 hectares.

Reni Wulandari added that SIG has also created a breakthrough in post-mining land management by building the Kambangsemi Ecopark area for community empowerment. Empowerment programs include cavendish banana plantations, plantations and eucalyptus distillation, green houses areas, livestock areas (lele, laying hens and goats), tilapung tilapia fish cages, Bale Kriya (workshop paving stone, pots, interlocked bricks), to camping ground.

In an effort to realize Zero Work Accidents (zero Accidents), Zero Job Diseases (PAK), and Zero OCCURrences Due to Manpower Diseases (KAPTK), GIS implemented a Mining Safety Management System (SMKP) implementation, and created a driving monitoring system (DMS) by installing sensor fatigue and in-cabin camera throughout the mining fleet. DMS is a mining operator monitoring system to prevent accidents due to fatigue and unsafe action.

In addition, GIS also carries out the prevention of Manpower Diseases (PTK), implementing health risk assessments and work environment management to map high health risk work areas to prevent PAK and CAPTK. Thanks to this initiative, throughout 2022 to August 2024, SIG managed to record zero access, zero frequency accident rate, zero access rate and leading indicator safety performance with 100% results, as well as recording zero PAK and zero CAPTK in mining operations at Tuban Factory and Rembang Factory.

"SIG is committed to continuing to carry out sustainable mining through the application of good mining engineering principles, to create added value for all stakeholders," said Reni Wulandari.
