JAKARTA - The Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) is preparing a pilot program (pilot project) for the application of information technology systems (IT) for the 100 selected People's Economy Banks (BPR). This pilot project will take effect starting next year.
This program is designed to increase the competitiveness of BPR with commercial banks and online loan platforms (pinjol).
"We (LPS) are developing the IT system for BPR. This year a study has been carried out. Next year we will start buying the hardware and piloting the program," said LPS Board of Commissioners Purbaya Yudhi Sadive quoting Antara.
With a qualified technology system, Purbaya said that his party also plans to develop a long-distance management training program for BPR.
This is also an effort by LPS to strengthen the competence of BPR management to be better prepared to face the challenges of the financial industry which continues to change.
"So we are developing it (training). That (budget) is around Rp. 100 billion more for 2025," he explained.
Furthermore, Purbaya added that in maintaining public trust in BPR, LPS seeks to accelerate the process of paying claims for closed BPR customers.
LPS set a target that for 7 days after the decision to close the BPR, all customer funds can be disbursed.

"Even 5 days (after the closing of the BPR), at least 50 percent of the money (cash funds) has flowed to customers," he added.
With these various initiatives, LPS hopes to strengthen the BPR sector as well as support their operational sustainability in the midst of increasingly fierce financial industry competition.
For information, as of August 2024, the number of BPR accounts that have been guaranteed by LPS is 99.98 percent or the equivalent of 15,806,327 accounts.
