The Ministry Of Industry Calls The 2024 Pilkada Not Significantly Contributed To The September IKI Increase

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) said that the momentum for simultaneous regional head elections (Pilkada) in 2024 has not had much impact on the increase in the industrial confidence index (IKI) in September 2024.

This was conveyed by the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry, Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, in the agenda of releasing IKI in September 2024 at the Ministry of Industry Building, Jakarta, Monday, September 30.

"Last month, we conveyed that the Pilkada (2024) could contribute to the increase in IKI. However, we convey to IKI as a whole in September 2024, the Pilkada has not yet (made a contribution) significantly," he said.

Febri said that until now, the momentum of the 2024 Pilkada has only had an impact on paper and paper sub-sectors.

"We have received information that the organizers of the Pillingkada, namely the KPU, have started using paper from domestic products," he said.

He hopes that later the 2024 Pilkada will also be able to use domestic industrial production ink.

"For election ink, we are also monitoring and it seems that it is already in the e-catalog. And we still hope that the ink in the regional elections will also come from domestic industrial product ink," said Febri.

According to Febri, currently the candidate pairs (Paslon) have not spent domestic products on their campaign activities.

In addition, said Febri, his party is also still too worried about the flooding of imported products, which until now there has been no significant policy to anticipate this.

"Well, what is not yet the Paslon expenditure. We hope (there is) Paslon spending on campaigns and also the community buys domestic industrial products, even though we are in a position to worry about the flooding of imported products, so far there has been no significant policy of anticipating that," he added.

Based on VOI records, the Ministry of Industry was optimistic that the momentum of the 2024 simultaneous regional elections could increase the demand for domestic manufacturing products.

This is because, based on data from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), the budget for the implementation of regional elections in all regencies/cities and provinces of Indonesia has reached Rp26 trillion.

With this fairly large budget, it is hoped that Pilkada organizers can use domestic manufacturing products, such as paper, election ink and several other stationery produced by domestic products.

"We hope that domestic products purchased by the APBD in the implementation of the Pilkada. Likewise for Pilkada participants, we hope to buy domestic products and not imported products," said Febri in the release of IKI August 2024 at the ASTON Sentul Lake Resort & Conference Center, Bogor, West Java, Thursday, August 29.

However, in reality, the momentum of the 2024 simultaneous regional elections has not been able to boost IKI's increase this September.

As for the General Election Commission (PKPU) Regulation Number 2 of 2024, registration of regional head candidates starts on 27-29 August 2024. Meanwhile, the voting will be held on Wednesday, 27 November 2024.

The simultaneous 2024 Pilkada system is the fifth time it has been held in Indonesia, as well as the first time involving all provinces and regencies/cities in the country.
