Subsidiary Of Barito Renewables, Star Energy Geothermal Increases Capacity Of 102.6 MW

JAKARTA - Star Energy Geothermal, a subsidiary of Barito Renewables, will significantly increase its installed capacity, announced through the announcement of the winner of the selected tender at the International Geothermal Conference and Exhibition 2024 (IIGCE), where Star Energy Geothermal plays the host.

This strategic initiative aims to increase the capacity of Star Energy Geothermal through retrofitting projects and new capacity additions, which will not only increase the capacity of various geothermal units operated by Star Energy, but also support Indonesia's efforts to achieve the net zero emission target.

Barito Renewables CEO, Hendra Tan, said this was an important moment for Star Energy Geothermal, which demonstrates our commitment to advancing Indonesia's renewable energy infrastructure.

"By retrofitting and increasing the existing power generation capacity, we ensure a sustainable and efficient future for clean energy in this country. This partnership not only increases capacity, but also encourages technological advances in geothermal energy, placing us at the forefront of this industry," he said. in a written statement, Friday 20 September.

In total, various initiatives announced at this conference are projected to increase Star Energy Geothermal's installed capacity by 102.6 MW, strengthening its position as one of the world's leading geothermal energy companies. The total investment is estimated at 346 million US dollars.

The Main Initiative Announced Today:

A. Addition of New Generation/Expansion

1. Salak Expansion Unit 7 (addition 40 MW)Mitra: JO PT Timas Suplindo and PT Rekayasa Industri Project will add 40 MW in the Salak geothermal field, by utilizing the Salak Injection Restructuring Program.

2. The expansion of Wayang Windu Unit 3 (increase of 30 MW)Mitra: PT Inti Karya Persada Teknik Ekspansi will add 30 MW in the Wayang Windu geothermal field, optimizing existing surface facilities to increase total capacity.

B. Increased Capacity in Existing Units

1. Retrofit Wayang Windu Unit 1 & 2 (increase 18.4 MW)Mitra: Consortium Fuji Electric Co. Ltd. (lead firm) and PT Wasa Mitra Engineering Retrofit aim to improve the technology and efficiency of Wayang Windu Unit 1 & 2, with an increase in the total power plant capacity of 18.4 MW. This will increase the capacity of each unit to 124.45 MW and further ensure long-term reliability of power plants.

2. Retrofit Salak Unit 4, 5, and 6 (increase of 7.2 MW) Mitra: PT Fuji Electric Indonesia Salak Retrofit Project will replace turbine rotors and diaphragms with the latest designs, increase efficiency and increase the combined capacity of Unit 4, 5, and 6 by 7.2 MW.

3. Retrofit Darajat Unit 3 (increase of 7 MW) Mitra: PT Mitsubishi Power Indonesia Through technological improvement, Retrofit Darajat Unit 3 will increase energy efficiency and increase capacity by 7 MW, increasing total capacity from 122 MW to 129 MW.

C. Laboratory Laboratory Services

Mitra: PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy TbkK The partnership will focus on sampling and geothermal fluid analysis to further improve operational efficiency and compliance with the principles of Good Company Governance.

The development of the projects above will increase the capacity from 230.5 MW to 278.9 MW in Wayang Windu, from 381 MW to 428.2 MW in Salak, and from 274.5 MW to 281.5 MW in Darajat. The development of these projects is in accordance with the requirements and conditions of the Joint Operations Contract (KOB), which allows Star Energy Geothermal to increase its capacity to 400 MW in Wayang Windu, 495 MW in Salak, and 330 MW in Darajat.

The initiative announced by IIGCE 2024 affirms Star Energy Geothermal's dedication to increasing energy efficiency and its long-term commitment to sustainability. These projects represent bolder steps towards a greener future, leveraging cutting-edge technology to optimize geothermal energy production.
