JAKARTA - Director of Energy Conservation of EBTKE Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hendra Iswahyudi opened his voice regarding the development of Nuclear Power Plants (PLTN) in Indonesia.

Hendra assessed that the development of PLTN in Indonesia was very dependent on the commitment of the government in this case, the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Regarding nuclear, I think it's just a commitment from the top leadership," he said at the Bakohumas Forum quoted on Friday, September 13.

He explained that various regulations had actually been prepared to prepare for the construction of the first PLTS in Indonesia.

Moreover, he said, the President-Elect of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, had met with Rosatom and discussed the construction of PLTN by cooperating with Russia.

"But this is a signal, a signal that if this is indeed okay, it has been prepared carefully, with the IAEA we also have 12 things that must be fulfilled, now we are also rushing to prepare the NEPIO," he continued.

According to him, with the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology with a capacity of 50 ME to 100 MW, it can be easily developed in Indonesia.

"So the time is not too long, hopefully we can distribute, pass PLTN according to what is in NZE," he said.

Meanwhile, the Sub-Coordinator for the Preparation of National Electricity Planning and Policy at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hasan Maksum, said that PLTN is indeed in the National Electricity General Plan or RUKN because the construction of PLTU will be limited but the need for electricity will continue to grow.

He explained that PLTU is actually a baseload generator. Then the potential for EBT to become a baseload generator is actually only hydro and geothermal, while for wind or bayu it is an intermittency generator.

"So like it or not, the need for a baseload plant is nuclear, which is one option that will be used," he said.

Previously, Director General of EBTKE, Eniya Listiani Dewi, targeted the Nuclear Energy Program for the Implementation Organization (NEPIO) to be formed this year.

Eniya said, later this organization will be the supervisor of the development of the Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN).

"Next week we will commit to the IAEA, in Vienna, that we will form a NEPIO," Eniya said in Media Gathering in Jakarta, Monday, September 9.

Eniya explained that later this organization will be chaired directly by the President. This organization will also have a working group (pokja) that will identify the site planning and construction of PLTN, security, legal issues and so on.

"It's my job to be able to present NEPIO as soon as this. God willing, this year if we have a statement in the IAEA then we will continue to construct NEPIO like what," continued Eniya.
