JAKARTA - Head of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) Dwi Soetjipto revealed further plans related to the development of the Andaman Block.

Dwi said SKK Migas divided the development of the Andaman Block into two stages.

As for the first stage, the gas from Andaman will be used more for industries in Aceh and Sumatra. However, he ensured that the first phase of the Andaman Block development still had to be communicated to stakeholders regarding production capacity.

"How many capacity will be and so on, but in this first stage it will be used more and channeled as piped gas to enter industries in Aceh, North Sumatra, and so on. Especially if later it can be connected to West Java," said Dwi to the media quoted Thursday, September 12.

Meanwhile, in the second phase, the development of the Andaman Block will be expanded by utilizing the LNG Arun Refinery. Even though it has not been operational for a long time, later the Arun Refinery will have to be repaired.

"Of course there needs to be a lot of improvement because it has been inactive for a long time and some of it has also been dismantled. So later the direction of LNG production will be to use LNG Arun," he continued.

Previously, SKK Migas revealed that the Plan of Development (POD) of the Andaman Block is targeted to be completed in October 2024. The latest news, he said, is that Mubadala Energy as the operator of this block is currently preparing a development scenario.
