Using AI, PHR Successfully Holds Back The Rate Of Decreased Natural Production Of Minas Oil Field

JAKARTA - Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) managed to contain the rate of declining rate of Minas oil field EXisting wells, from an average of 11 percent per year to 6 percent.

EVP Upstream Business, Andre Wijanarko said, this achievement was obtained from the implementation of the Advanced Reservoir Management based on the Artificial Intelligent (AI) Expert System, in evaluating production wells at the Minas oil field, Rokan Working Area in Riau.

"The application of this technology has succeeded in providing added value (value creation) of Rp. 200 billion, from the evaluation of 150 old wells, without drilling new wells," said Andre, Friday, August 23.

Andre said that the technology that was called the originator officers called Venus was a follow-up initiative of e-MARS coded innovation. Venus is the first sub-surface evaluation process in Indonesia, even in the world based on Advance Reservoir Management (RM) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

"In this innovation, in principle we integrate geological and geophysical data (G&G) subsurfaces and dynamic data of surrounding wells, by looking at the location of the injector for the Minas waterfood lap," said Sr Petroleum Engineer PHR as well as Head of the Venus Afrilia Project Elisa.

Lisa added that the data was then calculated through the AI Expert System they built, to conduct a thorough and simultaneous evaluation of hundreds of wells in the Minas field.

"Although the old Minas field wells are more than 8 decades old, the innovations made by PHR officers have proven successful in proving that technology and new ways of thinking can uncover old field proven reserves (reserves) for production," he explained.

Lisa projects that by the end of 2024, Venus could help evaluate up to 300 wells out of a total of 1500 production wells in Minas, with a projected value creation of 450 billion.

Currently, Venus' evaluation method will also be applied in the Bangko-Balam field which has similar characteristics to the Minas Field, with more than 600 wells to be evaluated.
