JAKARTA - The team from the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (Migas) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and PT Pertamina (Persero) are rumored to be visiting China by the end of this month.

Later the team will learn directly from the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology from the Chinese oil and gas company, Sinopec.

"Tim dari Pertamina dan Ditjen Migas akan ke China untuk melihat teknologinya (EOR) di sana," ujar Direktur Pembinaan Usaha Hulu Migas Ariana Soemanto saat ditemui awak media di Gedung Kementerian ESDM, Selasa, 20 Agustus.

Furthermore, Ariana continued, the Sinopec team will come to Indonesia to see a candidate for the oil and gas field that EOR technology will apply.

"The team from China will go to Indonesia to see the candidates from the 5 fields," continued Ariana.

The 5 fields in question are Pertamina EP's field, namely Rantau Field, Tanjung Field, Pamusian Field, Jirak Square, and Plagiaris Field.

Ariana continued, the collaboration between Pertamina and Sinopec is in the form of Operational Cooperation (KSO) with Pertamina as operator.

Ariana also did not provide further information regarding the estimated additional oil that Pertamina would obtain by implementing EOR with technology from Sinopec because Sinopec still had to evaluate and potential field by the team deployed by Sinopec.

"Not yet (know estimation). Later the team from China at the end of August or early September will come here to see the 5 fields, including evaluating potential if the technology from China is implemented," concluded Ariana.

Previously, Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) was rumored to be signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with an oil and gas company from China, Sinopec. The signing of this cooperation is scheduled to take place at the end of this month.

"God willing, by the end of this month PHE will sign for the application of their Enhanced Oil Recovery or EOR technology," said Deputy Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Wiko Migantoro to the media quoted on Tuesday, August 20.

With EOR technology from Sinopec, Wiko is confident that he can increase the lifting of PHE oil, which currently occupies the first position as the largest oil producer in Indonesia.

"With EOR, we believe we can increase the number of oil and gas production," he said.
