JAKARTA - The government continues to encourage downstream industries to be appreciated in the Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR RI, DPD RI in 2024.

Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo alias Bamsoet said that the government-driven downstream industry strategy had provided positive results in the form of investment value in the mineral processing industry which had increased rapidly.

"The value of nickel exports also grows very high, which makes Indonesia the number one largest nickel producing country in the world," said Bambang at the MPR/DPR/DPD RI Annual Session which was held at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, August 16.

To note, nickel downstream has been going on for approximately seven years and currently exports have reached 34 billion US dollars.

Previously, the Government officially launched a Mineral and Coal Information System between Ministries and Institutions (Simbara) today, Monday, July 22.

In his remarks, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said Indonesia has the potential to get royalties of IDR 5 to IDR 10 trillion from the entry of nickel and lead into this system.

"Only from royalties, we can get IDR 5'10 trillion. Only royalties, no tax talk," Luhut said in his remarks at "Launching and Socialization of the Implementation of Nickel and Timah Commodities through Simbara", Monday, July 22.

Luhut believes that the entry of other commodities into this system, Indonesia can become a great country. The reason is, entrepreneurs can be more orderly in doing business in the mineral sector and can prevent leakage of state revenue from illegal mining modes and avoid paying state revenues.

"If he is not comply, by Customs and Excise, he cannot export. Whoever he is, he wants to wear a yellow, red, black shirt, he can't. Want a backing police soldier he can't. This system will discipline this nation," continued Luhut.

Luhut admitted that the entry of nickel and lead into this system was quite late. This acceleration only occurred after the emergence of a case of alleged corruption in the tin trading system in the Mining Business Permit (IUP) area of PT Timah Tbk in 2015 2022 which was handled by the Attorney General's Office.

"The incident in corruption in tin, encourage us to accelerate this process," concluded Luhut.
