BPS Reports Imports Of Clothing So From China Decreased In The Last 7 Months

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's imports of clothing from China have decreased in the last seven months.

"It should be noted and paid attention that cumulatively, HS61 clothing imports and accessories from China from January to July 2024 decreased by 4.75 percent," said Acting Head of BPS Amalia A Widyasanti as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 15.

In addition, clothing and accessories commodities (not knitted) or the HS62 code also decreased by 7.17 percent. The decline is quite high, which is a non-cyclisted bra type item or the HS6216099 code.

However, BPS noted, there was an increase in imports for HS61 by 55.46 percent and HS62 by 29.01 percent in July 2024.

HS61 mainly comes from China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Turkey and Italy. Meanwhile, HS62, comes from China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Morocco.

Amalia said export and import data would be better if viewed cumulatively. This is because there are many factors that affect the increase and decrease in value when viewed on a monthly basis.

"If the monthly delivery process is influenced by the delivery time process, then stock every month, maybe it will be different. But if we look at the performance of exports and imports of a country, it is better for us to see in the accumulated numbers," said Amalia.

It is known, Indonesia's import value in July 2024 reached 21.74 billion US dollars or an increase of 17.82 percent on a monthly basis and 11.07 percent on an annual basis.

The main contributors to the monthly and annual increase in import value are imports of raw/auxiliary materials.
