JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is building the Pandansimo Bridge in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY).

In its construction, the bridge with a main span of 675 meters (m) long bridge uses a bumpy steel structure.

The corrugated steel structure is a plate steel structure that is made corrugated.

"The wave steel structure type is increasingly being used as an alternative bridge design because of its helpful advantages," explained PUPR.

This structure is superior because it eliminates the need for pillars or ash on the bridge and reduces the weight of the bridge and the number of foundation points needed.

There are two methods of construction of a bumpy steel structure, namely assembling one by one steel elements until everything is installed or unifies all previous elements and placing them on the bridge foundation.

While the excess use of corrugated steel structures includes increasing the strength of the structure, the flexibility of the bridge span, can be a drainage system and save costs.

The construction of the Pandansimo Bridge was carried out by the National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) of the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR with the APBN budget reaching Rp814 billion.

The Pandansimo Bridge has a main span of 675 meters (m) long bridge with a total handling of 1,900 m. The bridge construction is equipped with Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB) technology to protect or reduce the main bridge structure from potential earthquake disasters.

It is known, this bridge is above the ground with a sandy structure and shallow groundwater level, which is located not far from the source of the earthquake with an opaque fault with a radius of less than 10 kilometers (km).
