Prabowo And KSP Elected President's Economic Team Ready To Form A Carbon Agency

JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff, General TNI (Ret.) Moeldoko held a coordination meeting with the Elected Presidential Economic Team Prabowo Subianto and Elected Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for the 2024-2029 period, chaired by Burhanuddin Abdullah regarding the importance of further government commitments in seeking carbon control to realize sustainable economic growth.

Chairman of the Prabowo-Gibran Elected Presidential and Vice Presidential Economic Team for the 2024-2029 Period, Burhanuddin Abdullah, said that the obligation to fulfill global commitment to reduce carbon emissions is in line with the 8 Presidential Cita Missions Elected, in the second pillar, namely to encourage the independence of the nation, one of which is through a green economy. Namely, by forming a Climate Change Control and Carbon Administration (BP3I-TNK) which is tasked with directing, managing, and supervising sustainable climate change control and realizing carbon sovereignty by utilizing blockchain technology.

"Hopefully all of them can participate in coordinating in formulating the agency and revising the Presidential Decree 98 of 2021," said Burhanuddin.

In maintaining carbon control commitment, added Moeldoko, the Presidential Staff Office proposed the creation of a Task Force (Satgas) to initiate the discussion (initiation) of synchronization and the transition to sustainability of the implementation of the policy. "My advice is to form a task force first in order to formulate its body structurally, this is to facilitate the transition to body formation later," he said.

This task force, said Moeldoko, functions to prepare Government Regulations related to the establishment of a Climate Change Control and Carbon Administration (BP3I-TNK) Management Agency after the Inauguration of the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 Period which will be led by Prof. Dr. Laode Kamaluddin as the Elected Presidential Economic Team Prabowo Subianto and Ishak Saing, the Main Expert Staff of the Presidential Staff Office.

Furthermore, the 2013-2015 TNI Commander said Indonesia has financing challenges in order to meet the target of Emission Reduction in 2030. It takes financing to reach Rp. 4,000 - Rp. 5,000 Trillion, and Rp. 15,000 Trillion to achieve Net Zero Emission in 2060 or sooner. He added that the potential for carbon trading in Indonesia is very large because it has natural wealth, one of which is the large number of tropical forests and marine and coastal biodiversity (blue carbon) in the form of mangroves and peatlands which can be a source of carbon absorption and is very important in overcoming the climate crisis.

Indonesia can capture the huge economic potential of the carbon market and become a large source of state revenue, both through bilateral carbon trading and the carbon exchange mechanism, "explained Moeldoko.

The coordination meeting was attended by Nani Hendiarti, Deputy 4 for Environmental and Forestry Management Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, and Admiral DAntathi, Director General of Climate Change Control of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia.

For information, carbon trading in Indonesia is regulated in Presidential Regulation No. 98 of 2021, and Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation 21/2022. The carbon trade through the stock exchange was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on the Indonesian Carbon Exchange (IDX Carbon), on September 26, 2023.
