Balikpapan SAMS Sepinggan Airport Predicted To Serve 289,000 Passengers On The 79th Anniversary Of The Republic Of Indonesia

JAKARTA PT Angkasa Pura I (AP1) as the manager of SAMS Sepinggan Airport Balikpapan projects that it will serve as many as 289,000 passenger movements during the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan.

The projection is an accumulation of flights carried out for 14 days from D-7 to D+7 of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day galaxy on 17 August.

"The average passenger movement on August 10 to 24, 2024 is predicted to experience a growth of 15 percent compared to the daily average movement of passengers at SAMS Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan in the July 2024 period which reached 16,800 passengers," said AP1 President Director MMA Indah Preastuty, in an official statement, Tuesday, August 13.

Indah said that her party also predicts that the peak of passenger arrivals at SAMS Sepinggan Airport, Balikpapan, will occur on Thursday, August 15 or D-2 of the Indonesian Independence Day ceremony with a projection of 21,600 passenger movements.

"Meanwhile, the peak of departure is predicted to occur on Sunday, August 18 or D+1 of the ceremony with a projection of 22,800 passenger movements," he explained.

Indah said that the high projected passenger movement was also supported by the submission of additional flights or extra flights at SAMS Sepinggan Airport, Balikpapan.

"AP1 noted that there were at least 54 extra flights proposed by 4 airlines for the flight period from August 10 to 20, 2024," he said.

Furthermore, Indah admitted that she had prepared various things to anticipate the surge in the number of passengers at the airport which would function as one of the air gates to the IKN.

In addition to these preparations, Indah said AP1 also prepared 24 parking stands specifically for placing VIP guests and military aircraft, including 3 parking stands specifically for Presidential Aircraft, elected presidential aircraft, and elected vice presidential aircraft. Meanwhile, 26 other parking stands available will be used to serve regular commercial flight operations.

"We are committed to being able to provide excellent quality services to those who will attend the 79th Indonesian Independence Anniversary Ceremony at IKN, and of course to all service users in general," he said.

In addition, Indah ensured that all these preparations would not have an impact on services to airport service users in general.

"We can also convey that during this period, service operations to airport service users in general will continue as usual," he said.
