JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir plans to make the National Monument or Monas area a City Center which is expected to improve the economy of the Jakarta area.

Quoted through Erick's official Instagram account on Thursday, he said that he began discussing with the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono regarding the renovation of the Monas area.

"This morning I had a meeting with the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Mr. @herubudihartono, to discuss the plan to make and renovate the Monas area as a City Center which can improve the economy of the Jakarta area and increase tourist visits to Jakarta," Erick said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 1.

Erick said that the Ministry of SOEs continues to consolidate with the DKI Jakarta Government to optimize 13 assets belonging to BUMN managed by Danareksa.

"Support from the DKI Jakarta government is very important to make this area more attractive, greener, and more integrated, so that it can become a new center of economic growth," said Erick.

In early 2024, Erick had said that his party was conducting business assessments to several countries to create added value for the assets of BUMN-owned buildings around Monas, Jakarta.

Erick said that SOEs have 13 assets around Monas, including the building owned by PT Pertamina (Persero).

It is important to create value for these assets, especially when the official government moves to the capital city of the archipelago (IKN).

"Later, if the government moves, these buildings will be neglected. Now, it's a shame if we don't have value creation, that's why yesterday we made a roadshow with potential property players who want to see this as an opportunity," Erick said at the Gathering with the Minister of SOEs, in Jakarta, Saturday (20/4). The creation of added value previously carried out by SOEs in the Special Economic Zone (KEK) Health in Sanur, Denpasar, Bali, after the integrated tourism ecosystem area began construction in December 2021. The initial investment in the construction of health and tourism SEZs in Sanur reached IDR 10.3 trillion on 41.26 hectares of land.

Sanur's health SEZ has also opened new jobs that are targeted to attract 43 thousand workers.

Erick said, the same thing needs to be done with other SOE assets. Through this Mutual Property Fund, it is hoped that assets around Monas can develop with the same opportunity to develop.
