Pelni Targets The Number Of Passengers To Reach 5.5 Million This Year

JAKARTA - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) or Pelni targets to be able to carry passengers up to 5.5 million people by the end of this year. This number reaches the achievement before the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Director of PT Pelni Tri Andayani said that until the first semester of 2024 the number of passengers that Pelni had served reached 2.6 million people. He is also optimistic that the number of Pelni passengers this year will reach more than 5 million people.

This belief, he continued, could not be separated from the increasing interest of the public in using sea or ship transportation modes.

"I project that by the end of the year it could reach 5.4 to 5.5 million people with long holidays and Nataru," he said in a Talkshow entitled Pelni Opportunities and Challenges at the Mulia Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday, August 1.

The woman who is familiarly called you said that the number of Pelni passengers before the COVID-19 pandemic was approximately 5.4 million in one year.

"Then we saw a sharp decline in 2020 and 2021, then it increased again as PPKM opened and at the end of 2023 we recorded 5.3 million passengers," he explained.

You also asked the Ministry of Transportation to allow Pelni to load ships exceeding the existing ship's capacity.

"Seeing also from the current trend throughout the year, we ask the Ministry of Transportation to be precise the passenger dispensation of 150 percent of the ship's passenger capacity. Because the amount of demand or demand from the community is currently very large or high," he said.

You also conveyed that the increase in the number of passengers would boost the company's financial performance. He said Pelni's profit, which had fallen to Rp30 billion and Rp40 billion in the pandemic era in 2021 to 2022, experienced a surge of up to Rp173 billion and Rp201 billion in 2022 and 2023.

"The increase in the number of passengers is arguably a prescription for an increase in company profit. We are optimistic that profit will grow positively considering that until the first semester of 2024 it has reached Rp110 billion," he explained.
