Shopee Rumored To Be Doing Employee Mass Layoffs Again

JAKARTA - Shopee's e-commerce platform is rumored to have again carried out many layoffs (PHK). From the circulating issues, there were more than 1,000 employees affected by layoffs.

The issue of layoffs from Shopeen employees was revealed by the X account belonging to @v_vi_mcmxcv on Monday, July 29.

"Today is another day, again there have been layoffs at Indonesian startups. Shopee has treated my brother very badly. He has worked for 4 or 5 different divisions, but has received bad treatment. For God's sake, his son has just started his first year of pre-school," said @v_vi_mcmxcv on his Twitter account aka X.

The tweet of the X account belonging to @v_vi_mcmxcv was immediately replied to by many other accounts in the X application.

Just so you know, Shopeee has done several layoffs in Indonesia. The first time they did it was in September 2022, there were at least 3 percent of the total 6,000 employees affected by layoffs.

Only two months later from September 2022, Shopee again listed employees in November 2022. However, the number is not known for sure. The majority of divisions affected by human resources (HR) as well as learning and development.

Before the two waves of layoffs, Shopee had cut employees for the ShopeeFood food delivery unit in June 2022.

Shopee also announced layoffs in March 2023. However, the number of employees affected by layoffs was kept secret by the company. Even so, from the news circulating that the team affected came from the operational division.

When confirmed by Shopee regarding the latest news on employee layoffs in 2024, Shopee management has not provided answers and there is no official information from the Shopee website or social media (sosmed).
