JAKARTA - The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) held a bilateral meeting with the Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The meeting was to strengthen collaboration in perfecting job market policies.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the G20 Employment Working Group (EWG) of the Brazilian Presidency on Wednesday, July 24.

In a meeting represented by the Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower, Anwar Sanusi as chairman with the Deputy Secretary General, OECD Yoshiki Takeuchi.

Anwar Sanusi said that during the bilateral meeting, his party conveyed several important things that he wanted to discuss and work on together with OECD.

Furthermore, he also said the meeting was aimed at strengthening collaboration in perfecting job market policies, and improving labor skills.

"This includes encouraging sustainable job opportunities, and improving the decent work life of workers," he said in an official statement, Thursday, July 25.

Anwar said the important things discussed at the bilateral meeting were that Indonesia wanted to collaborate with OECD to develop human resource planning and development methods, both macro and micro.

"Second, want to build a method to collect information from the labor market related to its composition," he said.

According to Anwar, Indonesia with its demographic potential, and a very large productive age population realizes the need to increase the capacity of human resources, especially in the face of technological changes and green transitions.

"Therefore, we hope to learn from the OECD experience in terms of training, skills development, and labor market planning," he said.

Anwar said the OECD welcomes Indonesia's accession process and is committed to collaborating intensively. OECD will send statistical questions and policies to gather the necessary information, as well as carry out missions to Indonesia to meet with various stakeholders.

In addition, said Anwar, OECD also offers the best practice sharing of its member countries, especially related to pension systems, vocational training, and technological transitions.

"Both parties agreed to continue close cooperation in efforts to advance the Indonesian labor market," he said.

For information, together with Argentina, Indonesia has been accepted as an OECD accession country in the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) from May 2 to 3, 2024 in Paris.

Indonesia's involvement in OECD is expected to have a positive economic impact on Indonesia through increasing investment and adopting global best practices, as well as strengthening Indonesia's position in the international economy.
