JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) received hundreds of complaints from passengers related to baggage. Therefore, the Ministry of Transportation reminded flight operators to comply with the valid baggage services.

Initially, the Secretary General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Sigit Hani said that based on data from the Directorate General of Hubud, the number of scheduled commercial air transport passengers throughout 2023 was 95,139,722 passengers.

Sigit explained that this number consists of domestic and international passengers, with a total number of flight routes in 2023 of 301 domestic routes and 120 international routes.

"From this data, it can be seen that the number of passengers on air transportation can be seen, so that in addition to ensuring safety and security through technical regulations, the Directorate General of Hubud also has regulations related to services provided to air transportation passengers," he said in an official statement, Thursday, July 25.

Furthermore, Sigit said that of the tens of millions of recorded passengers, the Ministry of Transportation received at least hundreds of service complaints related to baggage. The complaint was received through contact center 151.

"Throughout 2023 there were 891 complaints related to baggage handling by flight operators," he explained.

Sigit said the role and function of the Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Hubud is very important in communicating to flight operators and partners related to the baggage handling process recorded by BUAU as regulated in applicable regulations.

Regulations regarding baggage services themselves are contained in PM 30 of 2021 concerning Regulations for Handling Bags recorded and PM 77 of 2011 concerning Air Transport Responsibility.

"Seeing the number of complaints from passengers regarding the handling of baggage, it is deemed necessary to remind the airport operator again as the owner of the baggage handling system, as well as the ground handling operator regarding regulations related to baggage handling," he said.

"So that in the future it is hoped that it can improve services to passengers, especially related to the handling of registered baggage," continued Sigit.

On the same occasion, the Director of Air Transport, Putu Cahyadhi, also invited the operator to increase education and socialization to users of air transportation services related to recorded baggage transportation.

According to Putu, this socialization activity is expected as a momentum to unite steps, increase cooperation and strengthen commitments with continuous steps, in regulating the implementation of air transportation.

"So that it can provide positive benefits for all users of air transportation services and improve the realization of safe, safe and comfortable air transportation," said Putu.

The socialization was held today, Thursday, July 25 in Tangerang, Banten. Also present at the event were officials at the Directorate General of Hubud, Head of the Airport Authority Office Region I-X, Head of the Airport Organizing Unit (UPBU) Business Service Agency namely UPBU Juwata, Tarakan; Sis Al-Jufri, Palu; Halu Oleo, Kendari; and Komodo, Labuan Bajo.
