Geothermal Development Evidence Of Indonesia's Commitment To Reach NZE

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Panasbumi Association (API) Julfi Hadi said that the development of geothermal energy is a form of Indonesia's commitment to realizing the net zero emissions (NZE) target.

"Earthquake has a crucial role in achieving the net zero emissions target. The development and utilization of geothermal energy not only contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also strengthens national energy resilience," said Julfi Hadi quoting Antara.

According to him, geothermal has great potential as a renewable energy source that can play an important role in efforts to diversify energy sources in Indonesia.

To accelerate these efforts, he said that various regulations, fiscal incentives, and innovations were needed to support the development of these energy sources.

Julfi said that collaboration between government, industry, academics and society is also important in overcoming various challenges and maximizing the potential for geothermal resources in Indonesia.

"This collaboration is a catalyst that will accelerate the development and implementation of geothermal heat into the only renewable energy that becomes a baseload generator and creates a Center of Excellence Geothermal in Indonesia," he said.

One of the efforts made by his party to increase collaboration between these stakeholders is to hold the 10th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IRGCE) 2024 on September 18-20 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).

The Chief Executive of 10th IIGCE 2024 Boyke Bratakusuma stated that the event was intended as a platform to support the achievement of NZE targets and accelerate geothermal development in Indonesia.

He hopes that with the presence of experts, investors, and other stakeholders, the event can find innovative and collaborative solutions to overcome the challenges of developing these energy sources.

"We also hope that through IIGCE 2024, more investors will be interested in investing in the geothermal sector and supporting the development of local technology," Boyke added.
