Jakarta - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) or Autonomous Trem series is scheduled to arrive in the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) at the end of July and operate in August 2024.

"The series of Autonomous Trams have been sent from China in early July 2024. According to calculations, the expedition ship carrying the autonomous Trams will arrive at the Port of Balikpapan and is scheduled to arrive at IKN at the end of July 2024 after the customs process is complete. "Thus, it is certain that the Autonomous Tram will be able to operate in August 2024," said Budi, quoted on Saturday, July 13.

Budi explained that after arriving at IKN, the Autonomous Tram components were planned to be assembled and started to be tested internally. Then, preparation and implementation of joint testing will also be carried out, followed by the implementation of a Proof of Concept (POC) in August 2024.

The showcase plan aka a showcase will be held from October to December 2024.

"Hopefully this schedule can be realized according to plan, and the Autonomous Trem at IKN can inspire other cities in Indonesia in terms of developing smart transportation," explained Budi.

Budi added that the Autonomous Trem is a leap in the use of new technology in the world of transportation in Indonesia, namely railless trains. Autonomous trends are operated using batteries by operation guided through the reading of road markings through sensors, so that these vehicles are effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and using fossil energy.

He also explained that the National Advertisement Road that will be passed by the Autonomous Trem has a very smooth texture. This will certainly make the motorists and passengers who pass.

Meanwhile, it has also been decided that the Ministry of PUPR will soon build a bus stop to support the operation of this Autonomous Tram.

"Interestingly, the bus stop to be built will not only be useful as a place to ride passengers, but will also function as a place to carry out charging," concluded the Minister of Transportation.

To note, the Autonomous Tram imported into Indonesia consists of one trainset consisting of three trains. According to the Minister of Transportation, the Autonomous Trem presented has proven reliability, because it has been recognized in several countries.
