JAKARTA - The issue of climate change has attracted the attention of many countries in the world, including Indonesia. The Indonesian government has committed to achieving net zero emissions (NZE) or net zero emissions by 2060.

This target can also be achieved by reducing carbon emissions with energy efficiency and use of new and renewable energy and increasing the absorption capacity of carbon through reforestation.

Not long ago, PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI held an activity of planting 78,000 mangrove seeds in order to welcome the 78th Anniversary (HUT).

The purpose of the CSR program is to help achieve NZE targets and restore biodiversity around the coast.

Member of Commission VI DPR RI Nasim Khan expressed his appreciation for the program.

"Banyuwangi Regency has a coastline of hundreds of kilometers which is the habitat of mangrove trees. BNI has successfully collaborated with the CSR program which was distributed in the context of its birthday with one of the main agendas of the government to reduce carbon emissions," said Nasim Khan in a statement to the media, Wednesday, June 26.

Nasim Khan also added that the BNI program is also expected to have an economic impact on the community around the coast.

"In addition, mangrove forests can be a source of income for people from fish cultivation, crabs, shrimp, to seaweed. As one of the banks that distribute KUR, later BNI can again help the community through subsidized loans from the government," concluded Nasim Khan.
