Governor Of North Sumatra Edy Rahmayadi: Economic Growth Of North Sumatra Contracted 1.07 Percent, But Still Better Than Indonesia

JAKARTA - Governor Edy Rahmayadi stated that economic growth in North Sumatra contracted by 1.07 percent in 2020.

"It is very far from the achievement in 2019 which grew by 5.22 percent," he said in the plenary meeting of the Governor of North Sumatra's Accountability Statement (LKPJ) for the 2020 Fiscal Year at the North Sumatra DPRD Building, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, March 16.

However, he continued, North Sumatra's economic growth was still above the national economic growth average of minus 2.07 percent.

"It is still better than the average economic growth of the provinces on the island of Sumatra, which is minus 1.19 percent," he said.

The governor said the contraction occurred in several business fields, such as transportation and warehousing by 12.77 percent.

Then, the provision of accommodation and food and drink by 9.26 percent, and company services by 4.71 percent.

On that occasion, the Governor also mentioned that North Sumatra experienced inflation of 1.96 percent in 2020.

Of a number of regions, Gunung Sitoli City experienced the highest inflation during 2020, namely 2.58 percent, while Medan City experienced the lowest inflation at 1.76 percent.

"This is because people's purchasing power has decreased compared to 2019 and prices are still under control," he said.
