Member Of Commission VII DPR Collects Comprehensive Audit Results For Smelter ITTS

JAKARTA - Following the occurrence of a ferronickel hot vapor eruption that injured two workers in the smelter industry of PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS) in Morowali, Central Sulawesi on Thursday, June 13, Member of Commission VII DPR RI Mulyanto, demanded the Government's promise to announce the results of a comprehensive audit of the smelter at the company.

Mulyanto assessed the results of the PT audit. ITSS for the previous accident was a smelter explosion that left more than 35 people injured and killed 21 workers on Sunday, December 24, 2023, which was important to consider the operational feasibility of the smelter.

"Until today, it is not clear whether the comprehensive audit has been carried out or not. In the RDP of Commission VII DPR RI with the Ministry of Industry, Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the Government has not provided clarity regarding the comprehensive audit of the PT. ITSS smelter," Mulyanto said in his statement to the media, Wednesday, June 19.

Therefore, Mulyanto urged the Government to immediately announce the results of a comprehensive audit of the smelter industry so that the public understands that the smelter industry really deserves to carry out industrial operations and is safe for workers and the community.

This politician from the PKS faction assesses that the Government has an obligation to ensure and protect the safety and security of workers and the public towards this foreign smelter industry.

Mulyanto added that the government should not allow its citizens to become victims of the trial of the feasibility of foreign company work equipment.

"Don't let the investment politics take into account, the safety of workers and the community is seconded. We do need investment in the nickel smelter industry, but it is not a fake industry that is the killing machine of our workers," explained Mulyanto.

Mulyanto said, what is needed is quality investment with high added value, so that the investment is really useful for Indonesia.

"Not just benefiting a handful of people," concluded Mulyto.
