OJK Focuses On Providing Public Education Regarding The Dangers And Risks Of Online Gambling

JAKARTA - Chief Executive of the Behavior Supervisory of Financial Services Business Actors, Education and Protection of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Friderica Widyasari Dewi said that she would focus on the aspect of education to the public about the dangers and risks of online gambling (judol).

According to him, focusing on education is one of the most effective ways to eradicate judol. This was in response to the statement of the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy who said judol victims could become recipients of social assistance (bansos).

"But if we from the OJK are more encouraging for education. Don't let people be quick to gamble online because usually when they are gambling, any goods are sold at home. Especially if there are only debt facilities such as loans and others, they must use them and there is evidence of these cases," said Friderica or who is familiarly called Kiki after attending the Talkshow and Watching Together Film Tegar, in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday 15 June.

According to him, the discourse on providing social assistance can be seen from two sides. On the one hand, the provision of social assistance for judol victims can be a means of assistance from the government, but on the other hand, the social assistance can create dependence on the perpetrators or victims of judol.

"But actually it becomes pros and cons, yes, if it's pro, maybe we can help people again. But if it's against, people will be, if it's tight because there are judols who help it," he said.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will soon sign a regulation regarding the task force to eradicate online gambling or 'judol'. This is as stated by the Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi when he was met at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday, June 13.

Previously, the president had given an appeal to the public not to participate in judol. Jokowi reported that more than 2.1 million judol sites had been closed.
