JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded vigilance over the impact of the formation of a long convergence and confluence area in several regions of Indonesia which can trigger the potential for the growth of rain clouds and significant weather, on Friday.
BMKG Praktirawan Yuyun Wulandari in a weather broadcast which was followed from Jakarta, Friday, explained that this combination of atmospheric dynamics was influenced by the formation of a cyclonic circulation in the northern Pacific Ocean of Papua.
"This atmospheric condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth around the cyclone circulation area and along the convergence and confluence areas," he said.
Yuyun explained that the wind deceleration or convergence area was observed to be formed in the Aceh, West Sumatra, Central Kalimantan to West Kalimantan, Southeast Sulawesi to Central Sulawesi, Banda Sea, Central Papua to Cenderawasih Bay, and Papua Mountains to Papua.
Meanwhile, the wind meeting area or confluence nationally is expected to stretch in the Java Sea, the Indian Ocean south of East Nusa Tenggara to the south of Java, the Banda Sea, the Timor Sea, the Seram Sea, and the Arafuru Sea.
The impact of this dynamic triggered an early warning of increased preparedness for the potential of heavy to very heavy rain that is projected to hit the Maluku region.
For the weather forecast of major cities in western Indonesia, BMKG asked for vigilance against the potential for lightning in Tanjung Selor, as well as light rain in Banda Aceh, Medan, Padang, Jambi, Serang, Pontianak, Banjarmasin, and Samarinda.
Conversely, the condition of cloudy to cloudy to thick clouds in the western region is predicted to occur in Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and Palangka Raya, as well as hazy air in Bandar Lampung and Yogyakarta.
Meanwhile, the weather distribution in the eastern Indonesian big cities shows the potential for moderate intensity rain in Mamuju and Ambon, as well as the potential for light rain in Makassar, Kendari, Manado, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, Jaya Wijaya, and Merauke.
"As for the Denpasar, Kupang, Palu, Gorontalo, Ternate, and Sorong regions, it is estimated to be thick clouds, while for the Mataram region it is estimated to have potential smoke or fog," Yuyun added.
