JAKARTA - The Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) stated that 51 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Centers have been formed throughout Indonesia.

Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Vivi Yulawati explained that this SDGs Center is located in universities, both public and private, most of which are currently still concentrated in Java.

"So, the champions who are present today from the eastern region, I really appreciate it, of course, we all still need collaboration to jointly encourage the development of even more SDGs Centers, especially the eastern region of Indonesia," he said, quoting Antara.

This activity, which has only been carried out for the first time, is an effort to achieve SDGs targets with even stronger acceleration.

According to him, extraordinary complex coordination is needed, not only can the self-employment government accelerate the acceleration of the achievement of SDGs, but requires the active role of all collaboration platforms, especially the involvement of academics and universities.

Until now, SDGs has become one of the main focuses in the assessment and ranking of universities at the global level, such as from the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking to the GreenMetric launched by the University of Indonesia (UI).

"Of course, these various efforts not only reflect the moral responsibility of higher education institutions, but also as part of our joint strategy to improve our image and reputation, and of course the positive impact on achieving sustainable development goals in Indonesia," he said.

Therefore, since May 2024, Bappenas has held a communication forum that brings together administrators, including the leaders of the SDGs Center from various universities in Indonesia, discussing efforts to strengthen the inter-SDGs Center network through the Indonesia SDGs Center Network.

The establishment of the Indonesia SDGs Center Network is said to strengthen the collaboration and role of the SDGs Center throughout Indonesia through exchange of course knowledge, experience, innovation, and others which are expected to help Indonesia accelerate the achievement of the SDGs targets.

Through today's conference, we hope that there will be more commitments and of course future collaborations that we can build both between universities and between universities and various other stakeholders. Of course, this will make one more contribution to achieving SDGs targets," said Vivi.
