JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno assessed that Generation Z will find it difficult to buy a house if it is not assisted in funding. He conveyed this in response to the mandatory payment plan for Public Housing Savings (Tapera).

"The need for people's housing is a necessity. Because if it is not done now, it will continue to be delayed, Gen z will never be able to have a house. I can guarantee that, Gen z will not be able to have a house if it is not assisted from now on for funding," Sandi said in a video on his X account, @sandiuno, quoted Tuesday, June 4.

The man who is familiarly called Sandi said that Tapera's mandatory contributions cannot only be borne by workers, especially now that the cost of living is getting higher. However, he said, fees cannot only be borne by the government. According to him, a partnership needs to be formed that involves the business world.

He gave an example of the policies implemented in several countries, of which from 5 percent of housing fees, as much as 1 percent are borne by workers, 2 percent by the government and 2 percent paid by companies. However, Sandi said, Tapera's contributions cannot be evenly hit into all companies.

"There are several companies that are ready because their businesses generate a lot of cash. However, there are also those who experience challenges, especially labor-intensive. This must be sought for an equilibrium," Sandi warned.

"So this is indeed a bitter pill that we have to take, but an example that is not popular. We all have to be together, we can't cover everything, the cuts are to one party, but there must be what is called a collaboration to build the country," he added.

The regulation regarding Tapera was signed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Monday, May 20, 2024, as stated in Government Regulation (PP) Number 21 of 2024 for amendments from PP 25/2020.

The regulation states that employers are obliged to pay participant deposits whose obligations are and collect participants' savings from workers.

It is known, the amount of the contribution is set at 3 percent of the salary or wages for Workers Participants and income for Independent Workers Participants.
