JAKARTA - To reduce carbon emissions, the Indonesian government recommends the use of cement that is more environmentally friendly or known as Non Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) or Non-OPC cement.
Related to this, the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) targets that the use of Non-OPC cement can be applied to development throughout the country by the end of this year.
This was revealed by the Chairperson of ASI Lilik Unggul Raharjo when met after the agenda of the 2024 Asia International Cement Conference Cemtech at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, Monday, June 3.
"We hope that by the end of this year it can really be 0 percent (non-OPC cement)," he said.
Lilik said that currently there are several projects in the government that use cement. Even so, he did not reveal in more detail which projects had used the cement.

"Because the PUPR Ministry already has projects running and so on. So, later (the new project) will really use Non-OPC (semen)," he said.
He explained, of all domestic cement consumptions that have reached 65 million tons this year, 70 percent of them are environmentally friendly cement packed in bags.
"If the pocket (semen) is definitely environmentally friendly right now. And 30 percent of it is already environmentally friendly and some are not environmentally friendly," he concluded.
