BPS Reveals 0.03 Percent Deflation Contributed By Components Of Voluntary Prices And Prices Regulated By The Government

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that there was a deflation in May 2024 of 0.03 percent month on month (mom).

The deflation was driven by deflation of price components regulated by the Government and components of the price of begejolak.

Acting (Plt) Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that deflation in May 2024 was driven by a price component regulated by the Government which experienced deflation of 0.13 percent with a deflation of 0.02 percent.

The commodities that are dominant in contributing to component deflation are intercity transportation rates, air transportation rates, and train tariffs.

Furthermore, the volatile price component experienced deflation of 0.69 percent with a deflation of 0.12 percent.

"The dominant commodities that contributed to the deflation of volatile price components were rice, broiler meat, tomatoes and cayenne pepper," Amalia said at a press conference, Monday, June 3.

Meanwhile, the core component experienced inflation of 0.17 percent with an inflationary contribution of 0.11 percent.

"The dominant commodities that contribute to inflation in the core component are gold jewelry, sugar, oily pastries and house rental fees," he said.

For information, in May 2024 there was a deflation of 0.03 percent on a monthly basis or month on month (mom).

However, inflation occurred at 2.84 percent on an annual basis or year on year (yoy) and on an annual basis the calendar or year to date (ytd) inflation was 1.16 percent, with the Consumer Price Index (IHK) at 106.37.

Amalia said that there was deflation in May 2024 after the last deflation occurred in August 2023.

The expenditure group that contributed to the largest deflation was food, beverages, and tobacco with deflation of 0.29 percent and contributed 0.08 percent to deflation.
