The government through the National Food Agency has decided to extend the relaxation of the Highest Retail Price (HET) for medium and premium rice.

This step was taken as an effort to ensure the stability of rice supply and prices in traditional markets and modern retail throughout Indonesia.

Head of the National Food Agency Arief Prasetyo Adi said the extension of the HET rice relaxation was part of the government's efforts to overcome supply challenges and food prices amid fluctuations in global commodity prices and climate change that affected national food production.

"The extension of the HET relaxation of rice is enforced today until new regulations related to HET in the form of a National Food Agency Regulation (Personal) as a change for the 7th agency in 2023 are issued," Arief said in his statement, Sunday, June 2.

Through a letter from the Head of the National Food Agency to the rice stakeholder Number 160/TS.02.02/K/5/2024 dated May 31, 2024, the extension of the Premium and Medium Rice HET Relaxation is valid until the issuance of the National Food Agency Regulation concerning Amendments to the Agency Number 7 of 2023 concerning the Highest Retail Price of Rice.

Arief hopes that this policy can provide flexibility to business actors and farmers, as well as provide guarantees to consumers to get rice at an affordable price.

In implementing the HET relaxation policy, Arief said the National Food Agency cooperated with various related parties, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Perum Bulog, and rice trading associations, to ensure that the implementation of this policy went well and on target.

In addition, Arief continued, supervision and monitoring will be strengthened to prevent hoarding and speculation practices that could harm the community.

"We invite all parties, both business actors, farmers, and consumers, to jointly support this policy. With good cooperation, we can ensure the availability and affordability of rice for all Indonesian people," said Arief.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that the HET rice policy was adjusted to the current situation and actual conditions where agroinput factors formed and affected rice prices.

The highest retail price is difficult to fall, even though the main harvest production is abundant. Because indeed the cost of aggloinput, the cost of farmers, land rental, principal, labor, everything goes up," said Jokowi.
