Agree To The Three New SEZs, The Government Targets The Investment Value To Reach IDR 161 Trillion

JAKARTA - The National Council for Special Economic Zones (KEK) has accepted the proposal to form a proposal for the Batam International Health Tourism SEZ, SEZ in Tangerang and SEZ in Morawali.

Furthermore, the National Council of SEZs will recommend the Batam International Health Tourism SEZ, the proposed SEZ in Tangerang Regency and Morowali Regency to Indonesian President Joko Widodo to be stipulated through Government Regulations (PP).

With the approval of these three latest SEZs, the KEK National Council targets total investment of up to IDR 161 trillion.

The new SEZ proposal has been approved. First, the SEZ in the BSD (Tangerang Regency) area which is a Health, Education, and Technology SEZ, is not a property. Second, the Health SEZ on Batam Island in collaboration with the Apollo Hospital from India. It is hoped that it can provide better health services for the people in the Riau Islands and its surroundings. The determination of the three new SEZs is considered to have met the requirements for the formation of SEZs as stipulated in Government Regulation Number 40 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Special Economic Zones.

The three new SEZs are expected to encourage competitiveness for Indonesia and create new jobs that are comparable to the various facilities and facilities that have been provided.

"With the approval of the three SEZ proposals, it is hoped that it can boost Indonesia's competitiveness, comparable to the various facilities and conveniences that have been provided. Furthermore, we hope that the three approved SEZs will also be able to support the business ecosystem around the region," he said.

To ensure the sustainability and development of the SEZ, Airlangga also emphasized the importance of monitoring each SEZ.

"I ask that in the future the Central Government and the Regional Government will monitor the realization of the investment," said Airlangga.

The government is seeking to transform the SEZ development policy by emphasizing the orientation of the realization of SEZs that are able to build added value on the mastery of technology and human resources.

The development of SEZs in the service sector is expected to be a barrier to foreign exchange that comes out while increasing foreign exchange income.

Meanwhile, the first proposal from the three SEZs approved is the SEZ in Tangerang Regency which is engaged in education and international health services with the development of digital technology.

Meanwhile, the SEZ was proposed by PT Surya Inter Wisesa (SIW), a subsidiary of PT Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) with a land area of 59.68 ha, this SEZ in Tangerang Regency has an investment realization target of IDR 18.8 trillion when operating fully and will absorb 13,446 workers.

The SEZ, which is located in the Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) area, is engaged in education with the operation of Monash University as the 42nd best university in the world, research, digital economy, and technology development with a target of 100 start-ups, health sectors with integrated services, as well as the creative industry.

Meanwhile, the Batam International Health Tourism SEZ initiated by PT Karunia Praja Pesona with a commitment to investment realization of IDR 6.91 trillion and labor absorption of 105,406 people.

Apollo Hospital India as the main investor is committed to construction in the international standard health service sector and the increase in medical-tourism will be completed and operational in 2026.

With the establishment of the State Batam International Health Tourism SEZ, it is hoped that there will be foreign exchange savings of up to IDR 500 billion.

Furthermore, SEZ in Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi Province with green industry-based nickel downstream.

This SEZ has an investment target to fully operate of IDR 135.38 trillion with an absorption of 136,000 workers.

The SEZ proposed by PT Anugrah Tambang Industri is engaged in nickel production and processing with the advantages of using Steam Power Plants (PTLGU), Fully Enclosed Submerged Electric Furnace technology, recycling of tailing waste from the High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) process, downstreaming of Nickel Matte and Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) to become the precursor of electric car batteries, as well as supply of raw water with reservoir & reservoir construction.
