BULUNGAN - President Director of PT Kayan Hydro Energy (KHE) Andrew Suryali said the construction of the Kayan Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) would have a positive impact in reducing the emissions of global greenhouse gases.

Andrew claims, the Kayan Cascade hydropower plant is a very important project, especially in the renewable energy sector.

"With extraordinary capacity, this hydropower plant is expected to be able to make a big contribution in meeting electricity needs in Indonesia and supporting sustainable economic growth," he said.

According to him, this project will not only provide electricity, but also create jobs and encourage regional economic growth.

"We believe that the synergy between the community, regional governments and the central government is the key to the success of the development of the Kayan Cascade hydropower plant," he said.

The Kayan Cascade hydropower plant will utilize areas along the Kayan River water flow in Peso District, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan (Kaltara). Consisting of five dams with 5 to 6 generating turbine units in each dam. Later, this hydropower plant will produce clean electricity with a total of 9,000 Megawatts (MW).

The plan is that this project will attract investment of up to 17.8 billion US dollars or around Rp277.2 trillion.
