Minister Of Transportation Will Study The Impact Of Turbulence To Ensure Safety Of Flights

JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi has opened his voice regarding the recent high turbulence in the aviation industry. He said he would study the impact of turbulence to ensure safety on aviation.

Furthermore, Budi said that in studying the recent aircraft turbulence, his party would cooperate with international institutions, in this case the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

"Turbulence definitely has a bad impact on the world of aviation. Therefore we are working with the FAA, and several international institutions to discuss what should be added in order to ensure that safety is obtained properly by the public in the services of the aviation industry," he said when met at the Jakarta Convention Center, Tuesday, May 28.

Budi also said that he would follow the weather forecasts issued by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). Budi ensured that in Indonesia itself could be controlled properly.

"Of course we will maximize the function of BMKG to respond to that, and God willing, we will control it well in Indonesia," he explained.

Even so, Budi said that turbulence in flight is unpredictable. The reason is, the wind and weather have changed which are also unpredictable.

"Yes, this turbulent can be an anomaly to the weather we are also experiencing. Now, for example, it's not the rainy season, it's raining, it's the weather anomaly. So what happens in the world where it comes from wind, weather, and so on, there are unpredictable changes that occur," he explained.

For your information, extreme turbulence was previously experienced by Singapore Airlines aircraft with flight code SQ321 with the destination of London-Singapore on May 21. The plane suddenly experienced the turbulence of the cabin crew while the cabin crew was serving breakfast.

Oxygen bags also automatically descend in front of passengers who shocked one plane. The pilot also asked for an emergency landing at Suvawenahumi Airport, Bangkok, Thailand. Turbulence occurred above the Irrawaddy Basin over Myanmar about 10 hours after the flight.

The incident killed one person and 71 other passengers were injured. The pilot then made an emergency landing at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand.

Apart from Singapore Airlines, the Qatar Airways plane also experienced severe turbulence in the Turkish sky. At least six passengers and six cabin crew were injured.

There was no emergency landing on the QR107 flight. Qatar Airways took off from Doha arrived on schedule at Dublin Airport, Ireland, on Sunday 26 May at around 13.00 local time.
