JAKARTA - PT Roatex Indonesia Toll System (RITS) will be ready to implement a contactless non-cash toll transaction system or multi lane free flow (MLFF) this year.

The plan is that the implementation of the toll road payment system without touching will begin to be implemented in stages in October 2024 on the Bali Mandara Toll Road.

"RITS as the implementing enterprise (BUP) of the MLFF program is ready to implement the system according to the schedule targeted by the government, starting in the fourth quarter of this year," said PT RITS Attila Keszeg President Director in the Media Briefing & Talk Show "Driving Towards A Brighter Future: The Evolution of Indonesian Transportation For Accelerated Accessibility at the Jakarta Convention Center, Tuesday, May 28.

During this transition period, the system used is a single lane free flow (SLFF) while still using a barrier. So, toll road users need to download the Cantas application, then the application is connected to a banking account belonging to toll users.

Every time you pass the toll payment transaction point, the account balance will automatically decrease according to the nominal that must be paid when passing the toll road.

However, the MLFF based on the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is not a "plug-and-play" solution that can be operated independently.

MLFF is a very complex system that must be well prepared, starting from technology, regulations and cooperation with other relevant stakeholders.

"For the sake of the successful implementation of MLFF, RITS is open and hopes for collaboration with all stakeholders, ranging from toll road business entities, financial authorities and regulators of digital payment systems to the police related to law enforcement," he said.

He also appreciated the steps taken by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in accelerating the implementation of this contactless non-cash toll transaction system.

This can be seen from the policies made by the government in recent weeks. After establishing MLFF in a national strategic project (PSN) for non-APBN, the government has just issued Government Regulation (PP) Number 23 of 2024 concerning Toll Roads. Through the revision of the Toll Road PP, MLFF has officially become one of the toll road transaction systems in Indonesia.

"The issuance of the PP is a legal basis as well as the implementation of the MLFF system which is awaited not only by RITS, but also industry circles and stakeholders. This step shows Indonesia's commitment to realizing a future transportation system in order to achieve the ideals of Indonesia Emas 2045," he said.

On the same occasion, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said that the implementation of this toll road tariff will not affect the amount of toll road rates.

"So if this SLFF doesn't burden BUJT, there's no burden on users. Still, this is a system change from cash (cash) to tapping, now it's SLFF. So, it has nothing to do with tariffs," he added.

The MLFF is the latest technology in the world that processes payments automatically for vehicles passing on toll roads.

Through this technology, toll road users can enter and leave without having to stop to pay.
