JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan expressed his desire for a faster seaweed harvest time.

"I think we have to do research, can we do it (harvest) in less than 45 days, if possible in 30 days, I think this will be better for our farmers at the civil level," he said, quoting Antara.

It is known, the seminar held discussions to explore solutions and the future of seaweed for the economy, where the government cooperates with experts and academics from technology institutes in India.

"We are working with researchers, we want the 45 harvest days to be accelerated to 30 days, so that fishermen on the coast have no problems with life in the future," said Luhut.

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs assessed that with this seaweed cultivation, lobster farmers do not need to sell lobster babies first.

"He used to be exported because if a baby lobster enters the cage he waits 7 months, what does he eat, now with this seaweed he can harvest every day," said Luhut.

Seaweed that can be harvested many times a year can benefit the community, especially 62 percent of Indonesians live on the coast and many of them fall into the category of poverty and stunting.

"In my opinion, in 2033, our exports from here will reach 19 billion US dollars, so with only 30 days of seaweed harvest, it can be done in a full year," he said.

Through collaboration with experts from the Indian Institute of Technology, Indonesia, which already has a factory in Lombok, wants to learn to see the organic fertilizer industry, such as bioplastics and organic fertility stimulants.

"Everything has a factory, we will make it later, later if everything goes well we will improve it, we will enlarge everything," said Luhut.
