JAKARTA - Research conducted by Let's Invest Girls (LIG) found that 91 percent of young women aged 15-18 years had never received a financial literacy session.

The research was conducted on 150 young women from 26 SMA/SMK in four cities, namely Bogor, Jakarta, Medan, and Sidoarjo.

LIG initiator Elvera N. Makki said the survey, which was held in a span of six months from November 2023 to April 2024, also indicated that only 23 percent of them understood how to manage finances.

Meanwhile, nearly 80 percent of students have received monthly money from their parents with an average amount of Rp. 100,000 to Rp. 800 thousand.

"As a result, most of them have difficulty saving, really don't understand the importance of investing, and don't fully understand the differences in desires and needs, and the important meaning of determining financial goals," he said, quoted from Antara, Friday, April 26.

The results of the research are in line with the results of the National Survey of Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK) of the Financial Services Authority in 2022 which shows that the Indonesian people's financial literacy index is 49.68 percent, while the level of financial inclusion has reached 85.1 percent.

Considering this condition, LIG carries out financial literacy activities which are targeted to reach 500 young women in various parts of Indonesia this year.

LIG discusses basic concepts about money, explores how investment can protect finance from inflation, differentiates wants and needs, helps achieve financial goals more efficiently, and how women control their financial future.

Elvera believes that financial literacy programs can achieve more teenage girls in Indonesia, can create a big positive impact, because women have an important role in making influential financial decisions not only for themselves, but also for their families and future generations.
