Telkom Strives To Increase Bandwidth Capacity In The Papua Mountains Region

JAKARTA - PT Telekomunikasi Indonesnia Tbk (Telkom) Papua Region continues to strive to increase the bandwidth capacity in the Papua Mountains Province, this is done to reduce digital inequality and encourage economic growth in local areas, especially Disadvantaged, Frontier and Outermost (3T).

General Manager of PT Telkom Papua Region Antonius Joko Sritomo in Jayapura, Thursday, April 18, said the effort was in collaboration with the Kominfo Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (Bakti).

"Yesterday we discussed with Bakti Kominfo, hopefully an agreement can be reached so that we can build Radio High Capacity in the Papua Province of the Mountains," he said, quoted from Antara.

According to Joko, by installing the IP High Capacity Radio in the tower built by Bakti Kominfo, the bandwidth capacity in the local area can be fulfilled.

"Radio IP High Capacity has a bandwidth capacity of 3.5 GB," he said.

He explained that it is hoped that the bandwidth needs of the Papua Mountains can be met, although not as much as fiber optics.

"Currently, the bandwidth capacity in Papua is only 1.25 GB with the East Palapa Ring Radio IP, where this capacity is still limited, but for communication services it is served by Telkom's subsidiary, Telkomsat," he said again.

He added that of the six provinces in Papua, he said, only the Papua Mountains Province had not yet been served by fiber optics, therefore PT Telkom collaborated with the East Palapa Ring in serving internet access needs via Radio IP.
