JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi said Apple CEO Tim Cook gave a positive response and response at Indonesia's request to build an Apple product manufacturing factory in Indonesia.

The Indonesian government opens discussions so that Apple can take into account investments in manufacturing whose products are not only used for the domestic community but also as suppliers for global supply chains.

"The government said that the market (Indonesia) is open and many Apple products are included in us as well, so don't just import, there must be added value in Indonesia," Budi said, quoting Antara.

Budi said the government would also prepare further meetings between ministries and institutions to be able to encourage Apple's manufacturing in Indonesia.

One of the topics to be raised is related to the possibility of providing incentives to Apple if it officially invests in building factories in Indonesia.

He conveyed this as a result of a meeting between the CEO of the technology giant and President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

"The president at the meeting asked Apple to increase Indonesia's role in the global supply chain and Apple to welcome it," he said.

Budi said that currently, in terms of component production for Apple products, there are only two components produced in Indonesia, this is far from what neighboring countries such as Vietnam have produced up to 72 components.

Meanwhile, in terms of product consumption, you could say that there are quite a lot of Apple users in Indonesia based on data from the Ministry of Industry in 2023 alone, Indonesia imports US$2 billion (Rp32.4 trillion) of Apple products.

Previously, Apple Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook arrived at the Jakarta Presidential Palace on Wednesday morning, to meet with Indonesian President Joko Widodo to discuss the investment of the technology company from the United States in Indonesia.
